| Brilliant Cut This is the most common and popular style of all diamond shapes. It consists of 57 facets, and 58 if the culet is also faceted.Fancy Cut Any other shape but round, e.g. Pear, Marquise, Emerald Cut, Oval and Heart-shaped. Facets These are the flat polished surfaces of a polished diamond. Table The top largest flat surface facet. Girdle The rim of the diamond. The girdle plane is the largest diameter of the entire diamond. Crown The upper portion of the stone above the girdle. Pavilion The lower portion of the stone below the girdle. Culet The pointed bottom of the pavilion, sometimes polished with a very tiny facet, sometime pointed with no facet. Fluorescence This refers to the natural glow of blue coloring in the stone under Ultra Violet light. Diamonds with strong fluorescence cost less than those without . |
